Wagon Wheel Hamburger Helper

I loved the barbecue flavor Hamburger Helper with wagon wheel pasta. So did my husband. But sometime in the very early 2000s it just disappeared.

I found a close approximation at https://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/recipes/recipe/55578/chuckwagon-beef-pasta-skillet. But it was too vinegar-y, and the quantity of brown sugar seemed excessive, too. I had to order wagon wheel pasta from Amazon, as no supermarket in my small town carries them. I got the 12 box quantity because it was so much less expensive that way. https://www.amazon.com/barilla-wagon-wheel-pasta/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Abarilla%20wagon%20wheel%20pasta

Copycat Wagon Wheel Hamburger Helper

1 pound Ground Beef (93% lean or leaner)
1 small green bell pepper, chopped (about 1 cup)
1/2 cup chopped onion
3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
1-1/2 cup beef broth
1-1/3 cup dry mini-wagon wheel pasta
1/3 cup catchup
1/3 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Saute ground beef, bell pepper and onion in Instant Pot about 8 to 10 minutes, breaking into 3/4-inch crumbles and stirring occasionally. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Stir in broth, pasta, catchup, barbecue sauce, garlic powder and onion powder. Cook on manual (high pressure) until pasta is almost tender, about 4 minutes or half the cooking time stated on the pasta box. Quick release the pressure. Season with remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt if needed.

If you are not using a pressure cooker, increase the beef stock to 2 1/4 cups and simmer the pasta until al dente, about 12 minutes or so.
